Nicole Scherzinger on her move into fashion with Missguided
Mar 05 2014

Nicole Scherzinger’s Missguided collection is finally here! The singer and former GLAMOUR cover girl has unveiled her line with the fast fashion website – and fresh from a new batch of rumours about her career on the X Factor, she’s fully settling in to her new role as a designer/collaborator, choosing to talk shop over TV/ her showbiz career. she needs to win.

A fashion line is something the former X Factor judge has “always dreamed of”, but she was waiting for the “right collaboration to come along”. So why Missguided?

“I love that it’s a high street online brand” Nicole says. “It’s affordable, it’s always been a really great fit for me, naturally and it’s my style and then I got to do my own thing with it. It’s just a really good, natural match.”

Keen to stress that she isn’t your average celeb that puts their name to a label without designing a thing, Nicole described her design process to us:

“I looked at the catwalks and saw what was going to be on trend, and then I said ‘how would I make it, how I would love it and how I would want to wear it’. And then I just incorporated things that were my style.”

For this collection, she chose “lot of cut outs” inspired “by the piece that the Milla Jovovich’s character wore in Fifth Element” as well as “fishnets” and “a lot of racer back tees” because they are one of her go-to staples.

But this isn’t about dressing down, Nicole wants everything to be “statement pieces; I want it to be graphic, really clean, strong but at the same time feminine, edgy and urban chic.”

When asked about her fellow stylish celebrities, Nicole preferred to cite designers, choosing Ralph Lauren and Tom Ford as the best dressed males in her life.

But she also cited Gwen Stefani as a style influence, saying “I’ve always looked at her as a bit of a fashion icon. I love where she’s come from the whole pink and dickies look with a beanie which was cool for a girl like me. She always keeps it super chic but still edgy and funky.”

And, like the rest of the world, she loves fellow Kentucky girl Jennifer Lawrence, saying she was “really empowering”. But she’s got a bit more in common with the actress’s legions of fans – “She came from my home town”, Nicole revealed.

The Nicole Scherzinger x Missguided Collection is available from the 11th March on Missguided.com.
