Celebrity dance off! Tom Hanks busts a move alongside 50 Cent and Nicole Scherzinger on U.S. talk show

He’s not best known for his dancing, but Tom Hanks seemed ready to give it a pretty good try on the Ellen DeGeneres show today.

The Oscar winning actor gamely got his groove on alongside fellow guests 50 Cent, and Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger, who performed together on the show.

As Ellen urged him to ‘bring the funk’, Tom bent his knees and wiggled his hips around in front of his amused audience.

‘The Hanks family motto is “give up the funk, parentheses, tear the roof off the house,”‘ he told Ellen.

‘My kids have grown up now but they used to hear that before they went to bed every night; “dad loves you and remember what do Hanks’s do? They give up the funk and tear the roof off the house,” the 54-year-old actor added.

He then delighted the audience by jumping out of his seat and throwing some individual dance shapes.

The actor had earlier revealed how his wife Rita Wilson got him interested in American Idol, revealing he cast his vote for last week’s loser Haley Reinhart.

‘I had dodged the virus for many, many years,’ he said about the hit show. ‘This year I got hooked on watching with Rita.

‘I voted twice and I thought well, that’ll put her over the top. I put off [voting] as long as I could. I haven’t voted with Dancing With the Stars yet.’

He also made a joke about finalists Lauren Alaina and Scott McCreery, saying: ‘Not to take anything away from them but I do hate them. I’m joking. I don’t hate them. I just lost, that’s all.’

Meanwhile, Nicole performed her latest single Right There, looking stunning in a low cut tangerine dress.

She also discussed her new role as host of the U.S. X Factor.

‘It’s good,’ she said. ‘We just started the audition process. Simon Cowell gets kind of out there. It’s fun and spontaneous.’

The 32-year-old singer co-hosts the show alongside British TV presenter Steve Jones.
