Heather Nelson interviews former Pussycat Dolls star Nicole Scherzinger
Oct 08 2014

ON a cold rainy bank holiday Monday in East London, striking a pose in a disused tube carriage, is a million miles away from what a superstar like Nicole Scherzinger is probably used to in sunny LA.

But while it’s not for us, this photoshoot is probably a typical day for the 36-year-old former X Factor judge.

Once the shoot wraps, we get to hang with her in her trailer to talk making money, mother love and moving on.

How special is the new album to you?

I’m really excited about it. The songs all have a special meaning. It’s my most personal album.

Last year, you had some tough times. How are things looking for you now?

It’s a great new chapter for me. I have a new team, a new label — I’m really excited.

Well we’re impressed by your £14 million record deal! So who inspired your success?

My mum — she empowers beauty, grace and strength. Growing up we didn’t have much. My mum had me at a very young age and we didn’t have a lot of money so I really appreciate what she did for us?

What was the last thing you splurged cash on?

I spend most of my money on others. When you grow up with no money, you really appreciate it when you no longer need to struggle. I bought my mum a house which was amazing.

But what about spending on yourself?

My trainer once worked with Bennifer (Jennifer Aniston and Ben Affleck) and he told me they had a Bentley. I know it was of kind of stupid but I thought I want one, so I got one!

You also donated a scholarship to your old school. Why was that?

It’s my way of giving back. My own scholarship inspired me to pursue a career — someone believed in me.

Did anyone else inspire you?

Whitney Houston. She was the best vocalist.

Our mums loved you in Phantom in the Opera. So will you do another musical?

I can’t say much. But you may want to bring them along to a new project I’m working on.

So you’re back with Lewis again. Tell us one thing about him?

He’s a very lucky guy.

We could not agree more Nicole!
