He was her “Jahmazing” performer throughout last year’s X Factor – so it’s no surprise Jahmene Douglas has become a rock for Nicole Scherzinger in the wake of her split from Lewis Hamilton.

Nicole took the shy, soulful singer from Swindon under her wing and even appears on his album which has gone straight to number one.

Since then, the pair have become extremely close. But, he insists, there is no chance of romance – the 35-year-old Hawaiian beauty is still hung up on her racing driver ex.

“It’s funny when people ask me that,” Jahmene says. “I know that she is in love with Lewis. And I’ve been with her as a friend while she was with him and when they broke up.

“I am trying to be there for her because it is a tough time. It isn’t easy to switch off after spending five years in a relationship. I think it was just obvious that the distance thing might have taken its toll.

“But she’s a strong woman and she’s not silly. She is very into her faith so she knows how to get through something and just needs the right friends around her.”

The pair, who recorded Whitney Houston’s The Greatest Love of All, went on a theatre date to see War Horse last month. But while Nicole has been healing her broken heart by hanging out with Jahmene, Lewis has been pining – even dedicating his most recent Formula 1 win to the star.

Jahmene shares his infatuation. “We’re so similar as people, like brother and sister,” he says. “We’re complete idiots together. It’s a laugh recording with her.”
