Nicole Scherzinger: “I can handle criticism”

Nicole Scherzinger says negativity only makes her come back stronger.

Nicole Scherzinger can “take a hit” because she knows no one can “scratch her name”.

The singer’s first single from her upcoming album is called Boomerang and it means a great deal to her. The track is all about bouncing back from a problem and using issues to become stronger.

Even though she has sold millions of records around the globe Nicole still remember receiving knockbacks and the message of her upcoming release shows how she dealt with them.

“You cry and you scream and you stomp your feet and you shout. You say, ‘You know what I’m giving up, I don’t care.’ And then you go to bed and you wake up and it’s a brand new day, and you pick yourself back up again,” she told UK TV show Daybreak.

“No [it’s not easy]. Even the song today, I was shooting the video and I was like getting frustrated and then I was like, ‘No, I’m a boomerang you can throw me out and the harder I’ll come back around.’ I can take a hit but you can’t scratch my name.”

Pressure is another thing which is always on Nicole’s mind. She might be enjoying success but she worries it could be fleeting, so strives to stay relevant.

“Yeah I feel pressure! But it’s good, it’s my driving force, it’s what keeps me going. It’s what makes me want to be better. I have these crazy out of the world goals and I’m like that’s what I’m meant for,” she explained.

Nicole was one of the judges on UK TV show The X Factor last year, following her stint on the US version of the programme.

Initially she wasn’t sure people in Britain liked her that much, but she feels like she eventually won them round.

“I’m not gonna lie I felt like coming to town and joining the show I didn’t get the warmest reception, right?” she said. “So now to be embraced and to know that people get my sense of humour and get my quirkiness and see the passion that I put into the show, it feels really good. It does feel like I bounced back, like a boomerang. To be like, ‘WHAT? In your face! Hi-yah, hi-yah!'”
