Britain´s Got Talent winner Jai McDowall is a bag of nerves over his Royal Variety Show appearance – because he has a crush on co-star Nicole Scherzinger.

The 25-year-old Scot is more worried about singing on the same bill as the ex-Pussycat Doll than he is about a Royal meet-and-greet with Princess Anne.

Jai said: “It is going to be one of the biggest nights of my life and I’ll probably be like a lovesick puppy.”

But the former support worker from Tarbolton, Ayrshire, vowed not to chat up the stunning 33-year-old singer, who has recently split from Formula One ace Lewis Hamilton, 26.

He added: “I’m too much of a gentleman for that. Just being on the same bill with her is a tremendous thrill.”

The song he’s chosen for the Royal Variety Performance, being shown by ITV1 on December 14, is U2’s With or Without You. A big fan of the Irish supergroup, Jai said: “I just think it’d be a good song to perform there, so I can’t wait to see the production of it and see how it’s going to pan out. I love the track.”
